The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency confirmed on Saturday that there was no ballistic missile headed toward the state, minutes after an emergency alert was sent to cellphones urging people to seek immediate shelter.
The episode came at a time of heightened tensions with North Korea, which has said that it has successfully tested ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.
Representative Tulsi Gabbard, Democrat of Hawaii, tweeted that she had confirmed with the authorities that there was no missile en route.
The alert caused widespread panic on social media.

....or was it triggered a bit too early before all the plans were in place?

Like some Janitor was cleaning the command control center off and accidentally wiped the alert button
