The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency confirmed on Saturday that there was no ballistic missile headed toward the state, minutes after an emergency alert was sent to cellphones urging people to seek immediate shelter.
The episode came at a time of heightened tensions with North Korea, which has said that it has successfully tested ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.
Representative Tulsi Gabbard, Democrat of Hawaii, tweeted that she had confirmed with the authorities that there was no missile en route.
The alert caused widespread panic on social media.

bro that's the wildest fukk up EVERThe local news is crazy right now. We have local congress members on tv asking for members to come forward and explain and apologize. The time of impact would have been 20 mins and it took almost 40 to hear anything. Traffic and grocery stores are stupid.
