it’s clear that A24 has a better understanding of who should direct these type of movies than the average person. Garland is perfect for this because his movies be general outlines anyway. Elden Ring is a glossary, it doesn’t have a set plot or outline like something like Zelda for instance.
Now if he’ll actually do a good job or not remains to be seen, but on paper is a great hire. I would’ve probably gone the TV show route and got a smaller but more passionate director, and a writer’s room. Who knows what their plans are for it as a franchise though, could be a one and done.
