Nah. Both inside fighters, but not very similar mentally or physically. In fact I'd say Frazier fought ONLY on the inside where Tyson could use his jab and straight cross more effectively, Frazier was gonna be RIGHT in your chest from 0:01 of round 1 to 2:59 of the final round. Left hooks to the head and body all day.
Tyson would be more accurate and the harder puncher, both had hard chins and could take man sized ass whoopings, only if Tyson went down, he wasn't getting up. Never did. Frazier has the advantage in the stamina department, anything after 8-10 rounds with a fighter like Frazier was gonna be hell.
Tyson had better Defense, both had great head movement, but I've never liked that crab style defense some fighters employed (Archie Moore, Holyfield, Foreman, etc) It leaves fighters open for straight shots and uppercuts...if there was one DEADLY punch in Tyson's arsenal, it was the Body-Head combination ending with an uppercut. Up until his stamina fades, Tyson would be a bit slicker than most HWs.
Frazier was a smarter fighter, much more calm and focused than Tyson who was a headcase who never really wanted to be there anyway. Joe was always in top condition, no question. Tyson was questionable soon as Cus died and having problems with Rooney/Wife. Assuming neither is a problem, I'd still put my money on Frazier being more stable mentally as a fighter.
Anyways...If you want to compare two fighters who had similar styles, look up Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson.
