We keep hearing on the Coli all the time that an artist dropped an album and did "relatively" well considering no promotion...

And I'm still lost as to what folks here consider no promo. With Yeezus, Ye went to different cities playing New Slaves on buildings. He did SNL shows. He's performed songs off this album. We knew the release date at least a month in advance...

Same with Chief Keef back in 2012. Folks on here said he dropped with no promo yet had singles on the radio and was doing shows before he got locked up... so how is that not promo.

So I just wanna know so we can set the standard going forward with all these albums coming out over the next 3-4 months... what things are considered promotion to you?

Heavy radio play and adverts.

we know things are coming out cause we are active on the net.

while others do not wonder the net for updates on music.

its just one of those things mang.

Yeah but in this day and age, it's different... you don't even necessarily have to scour the net for information on upcoming music. If I have a Facebook account and I happen to "like" Pusha T, there's no way in hell I won't know he has an album coming out. His page is gonna have numerous posts letting me know when/where he's performing, when the album's out, a link to the new video, etc. All the advertisements nshyt don't mean as much as they once did. Advertisement now is as simple as having a Youtube channel for the label and the video being upped.

it's no no promo, we're just in a new age of promo. you have your crew drop little breadcrumbs and the blogs and social networks go crazy. these creative partnerships become more about the deal themselves than the actual album. jay and kanye have both become experts at selling without selling. during wtt, work got out that they were holding something at an art gallery. you get there and get to see the maybach from the otis video and the video itself. THAT WAS IT. oh yea, and you could buy the deluxe wtt. it's not as in your face as showing up on 106& park and screaming "buy my album" but it's promo all the same.
