Honestly at the time I had mixed feelings about the shyt.

Stern was an a$$hole. I had zero problems with AI's wardrobes which for the most part were just oversized tshirts, fitted hats and sneakers and saggy baggy jeans. I always had (and still do) a thing against pants saggers but i also understand it's not my place to tell grown ass man how to dress.

There was a game I remember seeing a player on the sidelines. I believe it was a Nets player. Apparently he was on the injury list but was there to support his teammates or whatever. I remember homie had his sweatpants sagging so low that I thought to myself "cats like this that keep pushing the limits is gonna attract to much attention and get Stern to implement a dresscode, watch". The very next year the spotlight was on AI and then the dresscode shyt came down.

Around that time, Stephen Jackson who was still playing (for either GSW or IND i believe) made a comment which resonated with me a lot. It was about Stern trying to suppress someone's culture and expression with the dresscode. But if y'all recall Max's main beef wasn't the whole dresscode but specifically about a supposed ban on players wearing big chains. Which Jax was right. I think soon after they let go of the chain thing.

Thus why I prefer Silver as commissioner. He's still the owners puppet but he's more open to players input as opposed to Stern who tried to brute-force his way onto the players to appease white fans and his corporate sponsors/customers

Here's the link about Stephen Jackson protesting the chain ban.

Pacers' Jackson calls ban on chains 'racist'

Per the article he, like most players didnt have a huge problem with the business casual but the chain stuff was out of bounds.

Stephen Jackson in 2005

"I think it's a racist statement because a lot of the guys who are wearing chains are my age and are black," said Jackson, 27. "I wore all my jewelry today to let it be known that I'm upset with it. I'll wear a suit every day. I think we do need to look more professional because it is a business. A lot of guys have gotten sloppy with the way they dress. But it's one thing to [enforce a] dress code and it's another thing if you're attacking cultures, and that's what I think they're doing. I know a lot of guys on my team are upset and I have no problem speaking up on it"

Other notable players that i remember that made similar comments were Rasheed Wallace, Tim Duncan, Shaq, etc. I believe a few white players objected too. I wanna say Steve Nash made a big stink about it. But the aim was obviously for the young black players
