Alley boy is the perfect example of why it sucks to be a "gangster" rapper

because once people stop believing you, your career is over. Dude had a nice little buzz going. But first it looked like the softest nikkas in NYC (G4 Boyz) had him, not shook, but the fact that they felt comfortable talking crazy about him and Ducktape hurt his rep. Then the video of him getting herbed by two pedestrians in Cali and then running away put the nail in his coffin

The sad shyt is, Alley really was in the streets too but perception is everything. But once the perception of you being this untouchable gangster is gone, then your career as a "gangsta" rapper is too. Unless you've just been in the game for so long it doesn't matter (Prodigy for example) and even that hurt him too.

Isn't it really everyone in Hip Hop though? Ras Kass comes to mind....never a gangsta rapper but lost credibility though people still will check out his music. Then you have Dr Dre who pretended to be a gangsta rapper, got his card pulled, and then nothing happened.

When you are Alley Boy and 40 Glocc, where your rapping is nothing special, you lose your cred and you lose your appeal.

To an extent by its kinda different. Plus Ras buzz had been died by then. He was kinda an afterthought and he's one of my faves but that's just reality. Guys who perpetuate that tough guy act really get hurt career wise. like if Chance the rapper got punked nobody would really care. Drake got punched by Diddy and nobody cares. If say Trouble or Lil Boosie got herbed out like that, they'd be fukked.
