I know this might be an odd thing to post on this site of all places and I'm far from a prude, but I don't know if I'm just getting older ( :ld: )or what but, I realized that songs, particularly R&B, that are overly explicit just cause me to make the :rudy: face and switch it off. Unless i'm listening to slick rick, Devin the Dude, or something of that nature where I'm just in the mood for that and that is their whole steez, it feels like they're just like "fukk it" and don't even bother to use creativity to come up with some sort of euphemism, and just outright say "girl I want to make a water fall between your legs" "I want you to slide it in", etc. It makes me feel stupid listening to that shyt because it sounds like the creativity of a teenager.

I can't be the only one who feels this way.

I used to really hate it....and I still dont really fool with much music from Trey Songz for that reason, but I have become a bit more accepting of curse words in R&B.

As far as the freaky stuff goes, I still dont like the overly explicit stuff.

To me, things like R. Kelly 12-Play, Jodeci Freek n You, etc are the right mix of sexuality and sensuality w/o going too far.

It's a lost art, and it's funny that even tho a freaky song may blow up here & there, the entire genre of R&B has suffered(and is basically dead) as a result.

It hurt the genre and its one of the reasons R&B doesnt sell like it used to. Now you got these R&B singers who sung overly explicit songs having to sell out and go the electronic/house route.

Black people gotta have curse words and ignorance in their music, no matter what genre it is.

I don't hear that in real R&B but yeah I can't stand that hip hop/R&B fusion. I've got nothing wrong with sex in songs but I don't want to listen to lyrics that are outright corny.

I'm a dude. I'm not the target of the lyrics so the only way I can relate to a dude in a song talking about sex is if its something I could say. Some singer with corny lines about making it wet and sliding it in makes me want to turn it off. I want to hear some smooth shyt that I wouldn't be embarrassed to recite.

not just overly explicit, i cant stand singers who curse. Its like the cool way the new generation of singers write songs, they put cursing in it. Not just rita ora, rihanna, the dream and etc ....... even rock bands like Fun, etc all curse.

I think it cheapens the soulful feel good of music, when you curse.

Yeah, and what happened is the "collabo" messed it all up.

You throw a rapper on ur track, and he gets all the shine. So now you wanna do/say some of the same stuff to make urself look cool. Now you wanna talk/sing like that 100% of the time.
