Parties are a waste of money and the crowds are terrible. I only go if it’s for a sole purpose. Rather do a lounge or a bar anyday of the week.

I've never been a big party or club guy, honestly. I've always preferred smaller get togethers, but in high school and college, I'd still go to parties & clubs off of the strength that closed mouths never got fed and I loved women. 
You could always meet them around campus, but there was something in the air at those parties. Everyone was typically a lot more loose (buzz) and looking to have a good time. For the most part, folks genuinely spent more time socializing than being standoffish and trying to look important with their cellphones at the parties I went to. It's funny what a difference a handful of years makes. Now, at 27 & married with one kid and another on the way, I'll have my boys over and let them bring their women. Turn on the music, set my wife loose in the kitchen, set up the swimming pool, bring out the bottles, grab a deck of cards, and turn the game on. An intimate setting of 6 - 10 heads I'm familiar with and close to has always been my preference over big parties, but to each their own.

The most I’ll do is a bbq, or a party at someone’s house.
(We’re all in our 30s and 40s and have homes and townhouses)
But I’m the only one without kids

Last one I went to was for a friend’s wife’s birthday. It was one of those events where anyone can go, and the ticket included all you can eat brunch buffet, and unlimited mimosas, and people could reserve tables for groups.
Of course, lots of women were having their birthdays, and I swear, the amount of sloppy bodies was astronomical. All the women with decent bodies were there with their men. (Surprise surprise). The worst part was, a lot of those girls were there celebrating their 21st birthdays, so they just don’t care about their bodies.
And the food at the buffet wasn’t good, and yet guess who kept going back to eat.

Definitely depends on the party & who I’m with.
When I used to go, I’d make sure I had a proper set up (section, bottle service). I think of it like monopoly, having a piece of “property” for the night. In addition, bringing your own girls helps + a homie who has loud. You’ll sweep easily.
