Everyone was shocked by Amanda Nunes’ destruction of Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 last Friday night. Well, everyone except “The Lioness” herself.
Speaking to TMZ, Nunes revealed she had been planning to destroy the overrated Rousey — the face of women’s MMA — since she joined the UFC in 2013.
“I don’t know how Ronda Rousey went this far in the division,” Nunes said. “Honestly, I don’t know how those gals lost to Ronda Rousey.
“I know since my first fight in the UFC that I can beat Ronda Rousey. But of course, I had to take my time and wait for everything to come together. … That day [at UFC 207] was the day I had to prove to everybody, and I did it.”
Asked if the fight was easier than she expected, Nunes said, “Yeah. Actually, my camp for Miesha Tate was harder than it was training for Ronda Rousey.”

Nunes, now the undisputed queen of the 135-pound bantamweight division, is on a five-fight win streak that includes wins over Rousey, former champion Tate and current No. 1 contender Valentina Shevchenko.
Rousey has lost her last two fights in brutal fashion. In both losses, against Nunes and Holly Holm, Rousey’s lack of boxing skill was clear to see, yet she seemed intent on trading punches with her opponents, both of whom are striking specialists.
Nunes was well aware of Rousey’s weakness in the stand-up game, and called out Rousey’s controversial coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, for his game-planning.
“She thinks she’s a boxer. He like put this in her head and make the girl believe in that,” Nunes told Fox Sports. “I don’t know why he did that. She has great judo and then she can go more forward in this division, but he put some crazy thing about her boxing and then her career started like going down. That’s why I went in there, and I’m the real striker here. This is the only thing I want to look at him to say.”
