The Wall Street Journal is reporting that online retail giant Amazon is planning to open physical retail locations similar to department stores.

According to the paper, the first locations of the stores, roughly 30,000 square feet in floor space, are expected to be in California and Ohio. The stores would likely open in strip centers, given the space, which requires a smaller footprint than traditional department stores.

It’s another foray into brick-and-mortar sales for the company, which recently passed Walmart as the world’s largest retailer outside China. But it’s not new territory for Amazon, which has opened its own book and grocery stores, convenience stores and owns Whole Foods Markets.

The Journal says the strategy would be aimed at selling more clothing and technology products, as well as its own private label goods.

They really are going to try and get Wal-Mart and Best Buy up out the paint huh?

The list of items/brands they would carry would be damn near limitless.

"Where are your Rucci rims?"

"Oh, they are over in aisle 126"

They really have to potential to do damage to Wal-Mart, and it says they want to do technology products. Best Buy is in trouble.

And people talking about Wal-Mart is too big, remember K-Mart was Wal-Mart 30+ years ago. Wal-Mart came and monopolized department stores. The Waltons would sell everything they have left to keep from losing their money if it came down to it.

Yeah, Amazon is bad news to retailers.

And I was one to think Kmart would always be around. Look how that worked out lol

We need anti trust on all these tech companies
Anti-trust laws don’t really address what Amazon/Bezos is doing.

I don’t see the government being able to stop him since he’s in so many different industries as apposed to monopolizing 1 industry.
