The trick to pulling off a lick is not inconveniencing the mark.

Companies have people carrying out risk analysis. Pretty sure they know what's going on, but it would cost them more money to pursue.

When you steal enough that it inconveniences them, or enough people start doing it that it causes an inconvenience, they'll start making examples out of people.

A lot of the used shyt you can buy through Amazon Warehouse are scam returns like this. I ordered an expensive soap dispenser for my sink from AW since it was half price and was listed as “like new”. That shyt arrived with a dispenser that looked like it came from the bottom of a river but the plastic soap holder and the mounting hardware was brand new and still in a unopened bag. If it’s just one or two returns here and there you can easily scam Amazon
