It cost $200million and i am quite sure Nigeria, South Africa, Angola , Algeria and the nations that contribute most to the AU budget could afford it, but the moment China came bearing gifts they couldn't resist.

But nevertheless, there is push now to make AU self financing so that this type shyt doesnt have an opportunity to occur

This. It's certainly possible but I'm often sceptical reading about China-Africa relations from Western sources.
