The country isn’t more conservative. Trump shytted on the economy while Biden and Harris bragged on it. The economy has only been good for people in the top 1/4th.
The country is populist. All the poling shows this. People want working class economic assistance. The Democratic party decided that they’d rather chase identity politics instead of looking out for their base. And, I think this was intentional because DNC leadership didn’t want to fight their donors.
disagree totally - maybe you dont see it but the identity politics and the cultural issues are what fired up conservatives and has kept them fired up for the last 20 or 30 years. the economy does play some part ( at least for this election ) - but even if the economy was at Clinton levels - conservatives have shown they will turn out on the identity politics and Dems just dont have the conviction that conservatives do to follow through and make platform and policy.
the base of the dem party has not been culturally the actual working class for the last 2 or 3 cycles - it has been about chasing the elietes and the scholarly /educated positions and that has been their undoing all across the country - the actual working class of this country is ,much more conservative than those in the current positions of power and in leftleaning media outlets.
That stuff is a tiny part of what the real Democratic party's agenda is and that's the problem. The DNC has sold out gatekeeping on a handful of fringe issues that the large part of teh base doesn't agree with.
And the base of the democratic party has always been the working class. The problem is the leadership doesn't cater to them any more. When AOC did that poll on people who voted for her and Trump it was because of populism not some "move to the right."
You can verify this in any poll. You put the top 10 liberal platform issues against teh top 10 REAL conservative platform points and Democrats win in a landslide. Single payer, financial reform, campaign finance, child care, social security, medicare all these are issues the left is for the right is not.
The RNC is just fantastic at messaging. They got the whole country thinking Obamacare is an evil socialist plot they hate, but you say "ACA" they love it. The RNC makes up strawmen and beats the hell out of them. That's the only way conservative policies that help the rich can get passed. If the average voter was informed, Republicans would get routed in every national election.
Country isn't more conservative, hasan actually brought up a good point in their back and forth; democrats don't run on anything and don't want to hurt their donors. If dems came out and said theirs not enough houses in America, we are going to fund a federally driven programs to build 5-10 million homes across america in 8 years voters would her on board.

She walked a lot of it back, most of her position was first time home buyers down payment; im talking a legit public federal led house building program that would lead to job creation. this would undoubtedly lead to lower home prices considering it competes with the private sector. Dems don't run on that because they're scared to be called socialist and lose donors.
