A Pittsburgh news anchor fired for a Facebook post stereotyping black people as criminals is suing, saying she was let go because she is white.

Wendy Bell, then a presenter at WTAE, caused a social-media firestorm with a March post, where she wrote that still-unidentified shooting suspects were probably black.

“You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday ... They are young black men, likely in their teens or in their early 20s,” she said.

“They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before.”

The 18-year veteran at the station later admitted that her comments “could be viewed as racist” and apologized, but was kicked out for what her employers called a lack of judgment.

She said afterwards that the true story in the situation, which started with six people including an unborn child being shot dead at a backyard barbecue, was about “African-Americans being killed by other African-Africans.”

However, now her attorney says that Bell was fired because of her race and was discriminated against.

“Had Ms. Bell written the same comments about white criminal suspects or had her race not have been white, Defendant would not have fired her, much less disciplined her,” federal court papers filed on Monday said.

The suit says that the anchor’s post was “clearly and obviously not intended to be racially offensive.”

It asks for her to be reinstated and says she should receive back pay as well as damages for the emotional and mental effects the firing had on her.

Lawyer Sam Cordes told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he and his client also intend to sue for gender discrimination.

Cheron Shelton and Robert Thomas have been named as suspects in the March shooting and are being held on other drug charges.

Attorneys for the two men have said that they are being wrongly held so that authorities can try to get information from them about the killings, for which they have not been charged.

She wasn't wrong though, which is the ironic part of it all. Still, she did show a lack of judgement as her employer stated. A company can terminate you for pretty much anything they deem to be harmful to their brand. That's especially so if you're a high profile individual such as a news anchor. I think people still aren't used to the fact that social media can be a tool used against you. Everything you say or type, is on the record for good or bad.

People need to learn to vent to family and friends in person rather than on social media...how many more people need to get fired before they realize this

:what:

Thats funny because most violent crimes are committed by white men. Most crimes involving automatic firearms are also committed by white men. Numbers will tell you that if a violent crime like this is committed, its by someone OTHER than an African American so assuming that it is a black man, makes it racist. The only thing this bytch is NOT wrong about is assuming if you see a news story about violence, it will be BECAUSE they are black men. Not that a crime was committed because they were black men.

I'd say she is very wrong.

Respectfully, I don't think she was entirely wrong if her quote was considered in context. It's one thing if she spoke generally on crime in the manner that Trump did when he retweeted the false statistic about 81% of white homicide victims were the result of Black assailants. That's racism along with pandering to racists. However, I'm very familiar with the area that the anchor spoke about and it's history. What she posted was an assumption of who were the killers and where they resided, and that assumption wasn't unique to her. Folks from this area including myself immediately had the same ideas on who and where the gunmen came from. It's a given assumption if you're familiar with the area and it's history since the late 80's and mid 90's. It's no coincidence that's where the police have been doing a bulk of their investigation either.

The only thing I didn't agree with her was the comparison of stereotypical youth from that neck of the woods and the waiter she had at a restaurant across town. It was a typical case of the waiter being "one of the good ones."

goddamn, never seen an instagram post more about 'me' in my life. 6 people or whatever got shot and you're complaining about a chest cold or whatever this dumb bytch said. good thing that good negro was there working so hard for the white man, now we as the black race have hope. otherwise we'd all just go around murdering and raping 24/7. it's strange that we haven't died out since that's pretty much all that we do all day every day, just kill one another. <<that's sarcasm before one of you retards quotes me calling me a c00n.
