KATY, TX – A day after Sandra Bland was laid to rest outside Chicago, dozens of protesters marched outside the home of the trooper who arrested her.
About 50 people showed up outside the Katy apartment complex where Brian Encinia lives. He’s the DPS trooper whose fiery interaction with Bland was caught on dash cam video.
Protesters say his decision to arrest Bland after she failed to signal a lane change led to her death.
“It could just as easily have been me or anyone out here,” said one protester. “It’s time for us to take a stand for what we believe in as young people and make things happen. We just can’t keep letting things like this happen.”
Harris County sheriff’s deputies were on hand to make sure the protest stayed peaceful.
