I think he has lost the feel the funk ........hard to describe. If u have a natural talent you can understand. If u just lose the feel u simply feel lost and strange whhen trying to recreate theagic and thats whats happened to him.
Pretty much. But you wouldn't be able to tell with how great some of his guest verses have been.

It makes me respect Big so much more because he still stands by Dre. That's loyalty like a mufukka. He's a better man thatn 99.9% of cats for that.
Yeah, I've never heard bug Boi say anything bad about Dre

that Outkast show back in June tho:wow:did he feel like a sellout when got that check from us fans going out to see his fakkit ass:stopitslime:
Did you go?

The only reason he even did the tour was out of respect for Big. That's it.

Get over it.

And then the label won't even let Dre get on a song with Big and Vice Versa...they can only produce for each other. shyt sucks.

I guess the curtain is closed......
How many albums does he owe the label?
He was already teetering on the edge of checking out a long time ago and this label business was what pushed him off. I don't really have an issue with his candid take on his rap career, it's whatever at this point. Dre's beyond the point of recapturing any love he once had for the game, he just grew out of it and like it's been said in here he 'thinks too much', and while I don't agree there is such a thing - it's half the reason why he was such a great writer.
Great point

:mjlol:

yea, I thought that was petty. its not like they ended on some godly high note, Idlewild was wack as shyt. if anything I thought strong new material would help move on from that era, but that's obviously not happening
What's up with the Idlewild hate?

bytch you know how many hands were/are in the Beats cookie jar before Apple bought it. fukk outta here thinking that Dre/Jimmy aren't just the faces of it when Luke Wood/Ian Rogers are/were the ones running the company. shyt, Dre/Jimmy aren't even listed as inventors on any Beats patents. They put up some $ for the company as did a few other investors. Those two have their roles. Dre would be the face of it in a Jordan-like role and Jimmy would use Interscope artists/music to promote and use as leverage in the business. How hard is that to understand.

And at this point who the fukk wants to hear any Dr. Dre music that wasn't made in the 90s.
:ohhh:

The most interesting thing about this thread is that you can see how fickle rap fans are.

Here's a guy who at this stage of his life is basically the antithesis of Busta Rhymes, who we're all pretty much annoyed with and want to go away. Busta Rhymes won't let it go, he's everywhere trying to stay relevant damn near to to point where he's performing Coco with O.T. Genesis and damn near dying. There was a 17 page thread calling him :flabbynsick: and telling him to give it up meanwhile the guy who says he doesn't want to be THAT old man in the club, performing songs he did when he was 18, staying stuck in his youth, continuing to rap full time into his 40s is criticized.

Weird.

For anyone who's in their late 20s, 30s or 40s. Think of shyt you did when you were 16-17......For Dre that was Rap.....it just so happened to turn into his career........At some point you just want to do other things in life, not the same shyt you were on in your teens.
Great point breh. I :laff: when you said Busta almost died

Cant be mad at him if his heart is not in it. But he needs to stop teasing me and releasing these verses every few years that has me hoping he will make a full length rap album. It's a shame that we will never get the chance to experience that.

but "rap" doesn't have to be like that...he can be grown in his music..he doesn't have to act like a child...it's stupid to even think that way....and it's even more stupid considering the fact that the nikka didn't tour off of his most successful album...the nikka just thinks hes bigger than rap...no one told him to wait till hes an old man to drop some shyt..he CHOSE to do that...

Honestly, I would have preferred Andre 3000 stay in the game and we'd be up to Kast album 7 or 8 right now...

...but I don't mind how things turned out, either.

Dre took a backseat in the rap game he (perhaps cynically) views as beneath him. Can you really blame him? He took insane criticism when he was putting out 5 mic albums in the golden era of hip hop. This allowed Big Boi to go out on his own and do Purple Ribbon and solo albums and other music...established himself, got out of Dre's shadow, made millions as his own man.

He's speaking candidly on his career. In the context of the interview, he's talking about the stigma of "reunion tours" in general. People DO think it's selling out...for example, The Eagles and their "Hell Freezes Over" reunion tour was both happily acclaimed and cynically despised at the same time. He admits that people could share that view about his own recent tour, and that he had the thought himself.

That's not disrespecting anything he's accomplished, that's just being an honest and conscious artist. If anything, it's an overcompensation for respecting it too much.

As an artist I understand what he's saying but it comes across as hipster dribble in its delivery. It's not so much as him being a sellout per se but I feel like he thinks he's outgrown rap but won't move on to the next phase of his music career. He should either show where his heart is or just leave it be. It's been 10 years already, it isn't gonna break any more hearts to call it quits on the outkast chapter.

There's a such thing as taking yourself too seriously. This whole thing with him is becoming tedious. You know how many concerts I've been to where only old songs, or the vast majority of songs played were from previous albums..sometimes decades old? All most of us cared about is if the artist(s) played our favorites. I don't go to shows for new music..not that there's anything wrong with playing fresh material.

I swear Big Boi has to be one of the most LOYAL and REALEST cats in the game to keep on dealing with this fukk ass nikka and his antics. He could have aired out Stacks or even socked him in the eye numerous times but he keep it P.I.. Couldnt have been me
