You can push the line in comedy pretty far IF the observation is funny. We've seen plenty of greats solidify their greatness with this approach.

This joke wasn't any where near that line, it was actually mild. But it also wasn't remotely funny to me.

Also the difference between comedy now and then is that these dudes talk on podcasts in between sets. So now we know how they really feel about things which changes the context of their humor/jokes.

It’s one thing if you only hear a comic on stage and can just assume they are joking ire being edgy. It’s another when you know that’s how they really feel.
