Officials say an Indonesian plane carrying 54 people for what should have been only a 42-minute flight has disappeared over the country's Papupa region.
According to Al Jazeera, the Trigana Air Service plane's passengers included 44 adults, five children (including three toddlers) and five crew members. A search for the plane was suspended due to darkness and weather conditions, the Associated Press reports.
Al Jazeera reports that according to a tweet from Indonesia's National Agency Search and Rescue organization, "the aircraft lost contact while flying over the remote eastern Papua region at 2:55pm local time."
Tweets sent over the account account are written primarily in Indonesian, but the organization did indicate in English at 7 a.m. EST that the search would resume early Monday.
Update: They found the wreckage.
