My hypothesis is plenty of these cats taking big cuts of our tax money are the ones dumping investment money into these companies and seeing if they blow up.

A lot of white people live in their own world and get high off the hype of American exceptionalism. When you deny basic facts of reality it leaves you open to be manipulated. Trump won a presidency off it, Fox built a media Empire on it and cats in the OP have been conning them for years laughing to the bank.
