You see how they're moving based on two years.
National pride trumps faulty alliances, especially when long-term goals are in mind.
You're focused on the time, they're focused on regaining lost territory.
Don't underestimate pride.
During his campaign for president, Donald Trump repeatedly called for rewriting the U.S.-Mexico relationship.
He peppered Mexicans with nasty stereotypes (“criminals,” “rapists,” and “bad hombres”), advocated ripping up the North American Free Trade Agreement, and promised to build a “big beautiful wall” on the border — on Mexico’s dime.

Now some prominent Mexicans are raising their own quibbles about the border.

They are making the case that Mexico should return to its 1848 boundaries, before the United States snatched large chunks of their territory, including most of California, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona, during the Mexican-American war.
Some prominent Mexicans are calling for Mexico to take back Texas and the southern US desert region

They lost the war, but they're still fighting for that territory in other ways. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Gadsden Purchase are pieces of paper as far as they're concerned. Aztlan.

"2 years," think about the numbers, power and influence in the region they'll have in two years. But it's only two years.
