Man charged with two rapes gets one day in jail

(NEWSER) – A former Indiana University student charged with raping two women will get off with a year of probation and one day in jail, WXIN reports.

John Enochs took a plea deal and was sentenced Thursday, pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery. According to the New York Daily News, it's unclear why prosecutors decided to drop the rape charges — felonies punishable by up to 16 years in prison — against Enochs. But that didn't stop the sentence from immediately being compared to the infamously lenient one issued against Stanford swimmer Brock Turner earlier this month.

A woman says she was at an April 2015 party at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity when she went inside to use the restroom, WISH reports. She says the next thing she remembers is being naked and alone with an unknown man having sex with her. She says she told him to stop multiple times, but he wouldn't. She suffered a laceration to her genitals in the attack.

Authorities say security video showed Enochs enter the room with the victim and leave 24 minutes later. Police found a similar case from 2013, and that victim agreed to work with authorities; DNA evidence, eyewitness statements and IDs from the women led in September to the two rape charges against Enochs.

Indiana University has been criticized for how it handles sexual assaults on campus and currently has three Title IX complaints against it.

Prosecutors didn't drop the case, he took a plea deal. It's very hard to prosecute for SA. A lot of times victims don't want to get probed at the hospital immediately after being assaulted and most of them don't testify because it's reliving that moment all over again.

I meant they dropped the initial rape charge..and in this case she did get examined and wanted to testify..so i assume they had DNA and one witness at least so they had enough to go to trial..but then they stopped

No, she's suing the school for being negligent. Not for stopping her from getting drunk at a party.

The civil lawsuit, obtained by PEOPLE, claims school officials and administrators "showed deliberate indifference to actual notice of this sexual assault and condoned Delta Tau Delta fostering an environment of illegal and dangerous activity, as well as sexual assault."

Whether she's lying about dude being unknown to her or if they actually agreed to sex once a woman says "no" or "stop" and you continue on, that's rape. And that's why it's so hard to prosecute, because at that point it's just he said she said.

The video shows her holding hands with dude walking around looking for privacy..HOW is that the schools fault? what could the admins have done at that point to save her?

Feminism has turned the system into a joke..for the school to have protected her the way she wants it would have to be run like a prison...in which case she wouldnt go because she wants the schools with those frat parties,boys and alcohol.

Every freedom comes with a risk..if you want the administration to remove the risk then give up the freedoms too.

I disagree the FBI put it at 8% but i think its alot higher considering how many get set free by DNA and Video recordings even AFTER convictions and appeals and they didnt count mistrials due to recanted statements

Great post, will rep when this shytty website starts working. When I was studying CRJ my textbooks said the rate was around 4% but if what you're saying is true that's crazy, I'll have to do some research when I get home.

I remember that story of the high school football recruit whose life got rail roaded due to a false tape conviction. Women who purposely try to ruin lives and reputations with false accusations deserve the same amount of jail time the alleged offender would have gotten.
