Got my ASVAB coming up on the 14th took the pre-test on the spot and scored a 62, thinking of going in as a MST which requires a high score their offering a $1000 bonus for engineers as well so I might do that anyone care to share their experience?

Bc i have the hookup on an officer program. A full ride to any HBCU in the country for your Junior/Senior yr, and E-3 pay while youre on scholarship. Then you get commissioned.

The enlisted side is decent too but i know more about the officer side

Wish I had been smart and could go officer but I messed around my first couple years of college and things here have not been going my way I'm 22 and want to get a step toward a career going think enlisting now would be my best bet might try to earn a degree while enlisted

Feel like they get sent the best places and I don't really want to fight in any wars if need be man and you get to choose your job
That's not entirely true. People don't just die in front line fighting. The vast majority of incidents are personal error / mechanical failure - which basically means you're likely to see more shyt on a boat than you are in a fortress.

Also, you're way more likely to be dealing with the grime of American and international waters. Refugees and immigration, drug/weapons trafficking, etc. Its not 'safer', its just a different kind of shyt you'll be dealing with like anyone in the uniform. As long as you're in it, you're a target for somebody somewhere. Its a common thing recruiters tell people "you'll never see action!"

....breh, that's like saying you'll never seen guns in the hood in Atltanta versus the hoods in LA. Everybody got guns :francis: (that being said, I'd rather be in a vest rolling with a squad of goons anywhere in the world than back in my neighborhood in NC. Anywhere.)

ONE BIG THING that lets me know you're recruiter is gassing you though - a 1000 dollar bonus ain't shyt

I'd just keep studying and get that ASVAB up to the 90s-100s up then hit a different recruiting office. You'd be shocked at how different your bonuses and career options look....

Hit up everyone except the marines

yeah, army but i got pretty decent job. so good that i don't see myself leaving any time soon lol. i lucked into it though.

air force is the most low stress branch by far... but if you're looking for a career away from the military afterwards, then you're still going to need to be doing your research. just because you tightened screws on a jet in florida it doesn't mean that anyone will hire you to do the same outside of uniform - and that's where a lot of people get caught lacking. you gotta have the foresight for your field.

for example, this country boy from nowhere, alabama was a UAV mechanic at my last duty station in texas. nothing special about the kid on the outside. smart enough to do his job, never started trouble, drank like everyone else... when his contract up was up everyone thought that he was gonna reenlist since he hadn't been promoted yet and his options to move were limited

this dude had networked himself into a 80k+ job with amazon and their new drone branch. outside of the army, it was first real job lol

....so get yourself into something that's either stable enough to make bank in with or without the uniform while pursuing a degree or something that's going to be a new industry trend (Unmanned aerial, cyber, even something with a language, etc)
