Are you prepared have a positive impact on the community but hardly be recognized for it? Are you prepared to work a lot of hours but hardly make more than a teller at your local bank?

If so, you'll have a nice career in social work.

Go into the medical field like at the hospital or insurance. She's telling me get your masters even though she doesnt have it, seems like a waste to me.

From what I've seen from the outside, you need to network like a mf.

- your Masters degree helps but is not a must, unless you have the spare $$ try to get a job that has tuition reimbursement and get your Masters that way

- best paying / most stable job are with state and federal agencies

- be able to work in all fields (children, adults, mental health, domestic violence, income support etc) the more diverse your portfolio the better it is

-it's a thankless but very rewarding job at the same time

most important advice and I can't stress this enough

- learn to separate work life from home life or you will get burnt out quick

I've been working in the social work field for over 10 years now, have my B.A in social work

Get ready for extremely long hours, little to no recognition, trash pay, weight gain, and lots of stress.

Trying to push them for a STEM major but they're adamant on "helping people out" and they believe that you have to be a "genius" for stem :stopitslime:

Do it for the love of it and community. Isn't social work similar to Human Services? That's what I'm trying to major in.

They can volunteer at their local shelter/rehab all they want if they just want to help ppl. STEM would be perfect. If youre gonna be stressed at work, might as well get paid for it.
