Any Americans get dual citizenship in another country for the ability to use their HealthCare?

I was in a random Reddit thread and they were talking about trying to take advantage of dual or multiple citizenships, so that they could use the other countries' Universal Healthcare (since the USA doesn't have the same system).

I'm sure their are still some procedures that you will probably want to have handled in the USA instead, due to their expertise, but for most non-serious things, you can probably get it done for extremely cheap in other parts of the world.

Some places may require you to be a resident as well and not just a citizen, but others may be more lenient. Anybody ever research, or already taken advantage of it?

:lupe: is it expensive and how long does the process take

You can get citizenship into some countries, depending on how much money you spend there.

The best way however, would be if you have parents or grandparents from one of those countries, and then you can get dual citizenship in that way for the countries that allow it (which I believe is most countries).

years ago when Bush Jr was in the white house I worked for a company that did trips to the Canada for seniors to buy drugs. I remember it became a big news story in that era.

Just make sure you don’t get into any fukkery in that other country because being a dual citizen, you now fall under their laws. You can no longer run to the US Embassy to bail you out.

Only work if you got UK or Canadian citizenship really.

I’m not sure if any countries in the EU have universal healthcare, but good luck becoming a citizen there. I’ve thought about it, through Spain, and even with my parents being from Puerto Rico its a process.

its not an overnight process at all.

My goal was to go to Spain (since I speak the language), and get Spanish citizenship. I wouldn’t even stay in Spain after that, if you have an EU passport you can live anywhere you want in the European Union. truthfully I want to move to Berlin. Easily my favorite big city.

its definitely worth it, but just have a plan and proper expectations for yourself. Time is our most valuable asset, you’d have to invest a bunch a time in something like this just to change your mind later.

traveling is my favorite thing to do, so i say go for it always
