Thinking about going next summer. I see tickets to Madrid and Barcelona are similar price. I know Barcelona is by the water while Madrid is more urban. Which spot is better in you guys opinion? I dont care about partying or clubs.

What are some must do things? I assume both cities wont be too dififcult to move around in for American tourist since they are the too main cities in spain?

Outside of hotel and flight, I assume the cost to do things is pretty low or is it reccomended to look for somekind of tourist package that includes meals and site seeing? If so are there any you guys recommend?

i just found madrid very similar to every other major city. i found barcelona to be more of a cultutal city. like you actually felt like you were in spain and not just in a large city.

i spoke spanish fluently so i was ok in most of the country. but yeah, speaking only english is a little tricky in most areas of spain. there are plently of people who don't speak a word of it.

I have an african name so im wondering if that will cause issues. Mainly i want to do some sight seeing and maybe a train ride to see some Moorish Castles.

Like for some reason us Western brehs are perceived different internationally...we are the cool token Negroes that see on TV...

I mean it's racism still I guess...but you'll get a lot of female attention in the clubs just based off of Usher and I don't think they care about your name. More about how you dress and how you look.

I went and I was prepared for some 1950s shyt...but only Black people that got treated like that were African immigrants that lived in the ghetto...

Just be aware where you are...

Spaniards are aggressive...stay in more cosmopolitan areas and you'll be alright...

Been to Barcelona, had lots of fun. Plenty of attractions and the city is pretty lively.

As for racism, you won't see much of it towards you in Barcelona, can't speak for the other cities though. At the least, it won't be any different than what you would face in the US.

Your African name won't be much of a factor either. And if it happens to be a factor somehow, your American citizenship will balance it out.

Learn some spanish, that would be help a lot. Barcelona has a lot of tourist and/or foreigners for a spanish / catalan city, so you may encounter some english speakers here and there. But it def helps to learn some spanish.

I dont plan on going to hoods. Id just want to be in the city and at most see some moorish castles
