So...we aren't engaged yet...but we will be by June.

but we are kind of brainstorming wedding ideas....we are thinking a destination wedding with a small close group of friends and family.

And an engagement party but make it reception style so we can celebrate with everyone else who cant make the wedding.

we figure it would be cheaper and less formal and just more fun.

what do yall think?

what would/are you do/doing?

Or should we skip all that?

I propose and we head to Vegas or somewhere else, elope, and and honeymoon at the same damn time?

Getting married in May.

The reception is where the bulk of wedding costs go by far. So if you are still having a big reception for everyone then you arent going to save much money at all unless its some pot luck type of party.

Also with destination weddings, unless you are prepared to subsidize the costs then prepare for some people you are really close to not making it. People will say they are coming but when it comes time to cut checks i can guarantee a lot of folks will back out. One of my friends had one and she was in tears the week before because over half of her family wasnt going.

My coworker just got back from a destination wedding in South Africa.
She said it was amazing. And that the country is beautiful.

I probably would not do a destination wedding. Seems extra expensive and I imagine most people wouldn't attend.

I'd probably do something very nice (maybe higher end) but with limited guests.
Good luck on planning yours.
