Looking to get into the consulting industry after I finish my MBA.

Joined the consulting club(huge bank of case studies) and will have access to career workshops and on-campus recruiting over the next couple of years.

Not trying to go MBB because I don't need that type of stress in my life.

But even the mid-level firms would be a huge upgrade in pay over what I'm making currently.

Any tips, tricks, thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm in technology consulting at a Big 4 (data & analytics). I was an internal transfer I don't have my MBA nor masters but most of my peers have at least a masters. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM.

Keep in mind:

• Travel and expensing shyt is largely overrated if you care about your home life/significant other/family/friends
• You will be making a lot of PowerPoint decks for clients
• You will learn that a lot of these clients are idiots and only there because of nepotism (keeps us paid at least)
  
• You will probably be placed on stressful projects with not much help
  
• You will learn what higher ups at companies actually care about and how you can influence them (probably one of the best skills you can pick up in this industry)
• Take advantage of all the learnings your firm offer. For example, at my firm all the AWS trainings are free. Easy way to cert up and bolster your resume
• It's a relationship game. Your individual performance will help you but when it comes to promotion/salary increases - having great relationships with the leaders in your practice will matter significantly more. This also applies to getting staffed on cool projects
• If you stay at least a few years your exit ops will be dope and you will eat with way less workload

Overall I'd say there are some clear cons to the job, but the business acumen you pick up along with the compensation and potential exit ops make it all worth it imo. I can add more later if you would like

Dated two girls that works at a big four. One quit, 1 year in. The other loves it, I got denied once and recruited another time. Dont think its for me travel wise.

I’m at a big 4 rn applying feverishly to gtfo. This shyt is for the birds, crazy office politics, ppl who are up for promotion act like sociopaths and throw everyone under the bus to avoid any blemish on their case for promo. Esp sr managers going for partner
Long hours, pay isn’t that great for the amount of time and traveling for work fukkin sucks don’t let anyone else tell you any different.
I’d only recommend as a short term option to get it on your resume but this has been the worst exp of my professional career (in terms of stress). fukk this
