What would yall suggest?

1TB fuison or 256GB flash storage? What's the actual time difference between the two? Also I don't know why Apple is offering such a terrible hard drive with these things. Was initially looking at the smaller screen, but when you consider having to upgrade the ram (8GB is not enough) and then the storage, we getting close to 27 inch territory.

Anything else to add? Seems like the only issue with these thing sis the base models are pretty shytty.

Macs are expensive breh. There's no real way around it. An SSD is going to be faster than a hybrid drive period. It has nothing to do with macs specifically.
I have a 27" from 2009 and next month I'm getting a brand new 27". I'm likely going with the 500gb SSD and maxed out specs.
Dollar for dollar you would get a WAY BETTER PC for the price.
I'm too invested in Mac specific software at this point to get a dedicated Windows machine. If I wasn't, I would get a PC.
Also remember with macs you aren't going to be able to easily upgrade parts aside from the ram. So you're going to have to get the most your budget allows from the jump.
If you're dead set on getting a Mac, go for performance over screen size according to your budget.
Why do you personally need a Mac anyway?

I have the fusion drive in my imac and I haven't had any issues with it at all. THe speed is pretty good but you also get storage space as well.
I have an SSD in my MacBook and its just slightly faster, nothing that really makes a huge difference.

They are both WAY faster than a regular HD.

I have the 27" 5K with fusion drive, currently only has 8 gigs, but still haven't had a problem with it. Probably just gonna aftermarket the ram fukk paying apple prices for the same ram. bought 16 for my MacBook yars ago and still runs great.

What I meant was Apple will provide a top of the line screen then give you trash memory and a slow harddrive. It's like apple still having 16GB Iphones while the competition is at 32GB minimum.

Reason why I'm considering 27 is cuz I can upgrade the ram myself.

As far as why I need a Mac? I don't need one, but want a deskdtop with a large high res screen. Like you, I'm pretty heavily invested in apple products and do want to stay in that ecosystem. I also use some photo editing software that's just better on a mac.

To get what I want from a PC I'll be spending a bit less but still around the same. If that's the case I'd rather just roll with a Mac.

OK, that's what I was looking for. The SSD on my macbook is on point, if the fusion drive is similar in terms of speed I may just roll with that.

The SSD will be faster, no doubt about it. The fusion drive is just two drives (128GB SSD I believe and 1-3TB HDD) working together almost like a hybrid drive does. The most used files will go to the SSD over time.

The Fusion option is nice to have, just keep in mind now that you have 2 drives to worry about. Grab the iMac now, but make sure you grab that AppleCare less than a year after purchase to protect yourself a bit more...These new iMacs are a fukking bytch to open and many places won't even attempt to work on them as a result.

As far as the RAM is concerned, just start off with 8GB and upgrade slowly over time. You can get RAM very cheap on newegg compared to what apple charges for their sticks. RAM in iMacs is easy to upgrade.
