I just started my collection.

So far I have.

Erykah Badu - World Wide Underground
Prince - Purple Rain
The O'Jays - My Favorite Person
Kendrick Lamar - GKMC

I have a Chrisley Cruiser Plus.

From the reviews I've seen it's not good, but it works well enough for me and I use a Bluetooth speaker and it sounds great so far.

It's allowed me to appreciate music in a completely differently way.

Technology has made me spoiled but copping shyt in vinyl really makes me appreciate the music I'm listening to and really treat it much more like an album than just songs.

As an example, I saw Migos had a Vinyl copy of their album Culture III.

As much as I fukk with Migos way back when Rich than Famous dropped, the way I listen to Migos, there's no way I see myself copping a vinyl Migos anything.

I'd like to spend a little more one day on a higher quality Turntable but until then this is working out fine.

Y'all got any tips on the best place to cop, a better Turntable, the best way to store my records or any advice you think I can use?

I'd also like to know a good turnable for scratching. I want to dabble in that too.

It was a joke!
Y'all got any tips on the best place to cop, a better Turntable, the best way to store my records or any advice you think I can use

Buying: If you don't mind doing a bit of looking around, thrift shops are the most affordable option (I've never spent more than $3.50 per LP in any thrift store, normal price is $1). I've found mint condition jazz, folk and comedy records all at Goodwill. Plus, depending on where you at, there's bound to be regulars and resellers, I met a breh who's tryna open up a storefront, gonna sell a good chunk of my lot to him :blessed:

The cons to thrift stores, is exactly that, at best you'll just have dusty records, but at worst you'll have warped, totally scratched up ones.

Other places are Discogs (also a great place to catalog your collection), but be prepared to get waxed on intl. shipping and Amazon, which I rec as a last resort.

Storing: Get a wide, tall shelf and place them like books, preferably in a cold room. 45s can be stored the same way in a shoebox so don't waste shelf space on them.

Ime, milk crates aren't big enough to accomodate records these days. Highly recommend buying plastic sleeves for any 2nd hand vinyl, brand doesn't matter and I cop on amazon.

Other: I have a Crosley too, stock up on replacement needles:

One last thing you should purchase ASAP is a cleaning kit, I highly recommend Big Fudge's starter pack, still under $25 and they're really quick to respond to customer feedback: Vinyl Cleaning Kit

Welcome to the analog club breh :blessed:

Rep'd.
I'm definitely copping more needles and that cleaner.

I just found out there's a record store one town over from mine.

And I've got some thrift stores in my city. I'm going to check them out first :salute:

I was at Wal-Mart of all places looking through records and finding records I had to actually look for and got geeked when I found brought back feelings of when I loved music as a kid.

The sound of vinyl >>>>>>> One of the reasons why I didn't get into too much trouble as a teen was because I would go over to my pop's and listen to his records for hours. I really should have started DJing and beat making when I was younger. I think I missed my calling :francis:
If you do it for the love, it's never too late :wow:

I have a couple hundred pieces. I lost half of my collection in a flood. Currently getting rid of a few, as I’m moving.

It’s been years since I’ve bought any. I recently got a ton of 70’s albums from my aunt.

The prices are crazy now. I say ask around in a local Facebook group to see if anyone has vinyl they wanna get rid of, and make them an offer, if they have something that looks interesting.

And you probably wanna get a decent turntable and speakers. I don’t think there’s a point in listening to vinyl without a half decent system. Check out audio technica or get a used Stanton direct drive table. U-Turn also makes a nice table for like $200, but they aren’t made for scratching

As for storage, the standard is the Kallax from Ikea.

Could I get an MPC and connect it to my turntable to chop up samples?

What kind of software would I need for that?

For scratching and mixing I recommend these.

If I’m at the crib, I’m putting the needle to it. Check Discogs, eBay, your local shops and there are vinyl groups on Reddit that keep up with releases. Added a couple pics of some of my collection….Good luck.

Do you need to replace needles alot with scratching?
Depends on how much you use them, it's best to get seperate cartridges like shure for scratching cause those are buillt to take abuse and are made for scratching.

The ones that come with the ATLP120s are not good, even for mixing, so you're going to have to buy some other carts to put on the tonearm to play records.

The shures are 85 a pair. They make ones that go up to $250 a pair like Ortofon carts too. I have those for my turntables and have had them for 4 years.

also replacement stylus/needles ain't expensive...no more than $35
