My father gave me my first car and I purchased my next two with cash: $7000 and $8000. Both times the dealer seemed surprised that I had the money so I would guess that paying cash is unusual even for such relatively small amounts.

Had an experience with a salesman once. Picked a car and he was doing the monthly payment trick. Told him it doesn't matter cause we're paying the car in full (years ago and had my grandmother with me). He said cash doesn't have the value it used to. We did some wheeling and dealing and he tried to rim me off by taking the trade in value off the price of the car (ALWAYS do the trade in value after the car negotiations are done).

Even tho we were paying cash for the car it came deposit time and dude was asking for around $250 or so. Told him we are putting down $20 cause cash doesn't have the same value it used to.

The down payment goes directly into the salesman's pockets. Don't need to drop $100 of more when $20 will do.

If negotiations get to frustrating smile shake their hands and tell them you are going to another dealership. When they ask why tell them you shouldn't have to fight to give your money away.

Sound Reasoning
I've owned several cars and I paid cash for all accept one-my current car. However, I paid this one off a while ago.

Personally, I'm not too sure I will pay a car note in the future. For me, at this point, it would be hard to justify paying for something that I don't feel is worth paying for. For me, that would be something like a new Porsche Panamera or something alone that line.....very high end but driveable everyday. I don't jive with car payments otherwise.

Like paying a nice chunk each month to drive anything less than something rare and high end. If I'm going to make payments, it's going to be for something spectacular and something that is rare on the road.

Don't get me wrong....my current car is a domestic and nothing fancy. And I paid for that over a few years.....but it was brand new off the showroom floor with 0 miles and I was in college. But even those car payments bothered me.

I just don't get making payments for something that is regular....and most cars on the road are regular.

Peace

Out here in my damn drawls
My first suv in 10th grade and my 2nd car around my sophomore year in college.

The one I have now is leased, but I put down a bigger down payment. Anything at least 3 years old to brand new will be leased:yeshrug:
