Anybody else not really impressed by one-handed catches anymore?

If you havent ever worn a pair, go to Academy, dikks or whatever sporting goods store is nearby and try on a pair of modern WR gloves.

They're so sticky that you'll wonder how its even possible one can't catch the football. The ball literally stops and sticks on the glove when it hits.

Sure you have to have WR skills/technique to regularly catch a ball properly, but I'm more impressed by a regular one handed catch from a barehanded receiver than a circus catch with gloves.

The only impressive part is if you have huge hands it allows you a litlle better chance of grabbing it.

Funny you say this, I actually bought some yesterday. The Nike Vapors were on clearance for 9$ at Academy, :banderas: Would've been a crime not to.

shyts work like a charm:blessed:

Plus the balls have better grip too. I copped an UA one a few weeks back. Spirals so easy and the laces are excellent.

Catching passes from your boy Vince in the backyard and catching passes from NFL QBs with serious velocity are two different things.

But yes, gloves make it incredibly easy. shyt was borderline unfair in college intramurals.

Someone was saying something a while ago about they were going to look at the materials used on the gloves.

I have heard that as well. But every player has the opportunity to wear them, so that somewhat evens the playing field.

This is still impressive gloves or not imo.

I kinda agree.
Watching the Giants/Bills game and hearing the anouncers going off because ODB made another amazing one handed catch....out of bounds.for the next five minutes was fukkin brutal.

I always laugh when these non sports playing analysts make a big deal over relatively simple moves/plays that many people that have played sports up to any competitive level have done over and over.

This happens all the time in basketball...but football gets its it to.

"OH MY GOD, DID YOU SEE THE BEHIND THE BACK MOVE THAT THE PG JUST DID!!!!!!"

Well, it depends. The ball can still bounce out of your hand. You got to grip it the second it makes contact. A lot of timing and hand-eye coordination. So at the NFL level of play, where the catch is difficult, I find it impressive. If the offense completely tricked the defense and the WR has 2 seconds is not covered and is in the open, then a one-handed catch is like child's play. Of course, that would be a completely unnecessary risk to one-hand catch a throw when you are in the open for a touchdown.

Always gonna be impressive.

I'm not saying its not aesthetically impressive. They still look dope.

Its just not as impressive in execution for me anymore.

I just saw Baylor's 400 lb tightend one handing catches back to back on ESPN.
Looks cool, but those gloves make it 100xs easier.
