that doesnt have a HDMI output so thats not an option, one of the main reasons im thinking about gettin the kindle hd is cuz of that feature so she doesnt have to watch movies on her comp

My mom got my Dad one and he likes it. He also uses the HDMI port for the same reason you want to get one for your moms.

They pretty cool once you root em. I didnt like the custom android layout they had. Cool for readin books & shyt...

The screen is by far the most best you can get on a non Apple device
The build isn't pretty but damn useful
The lack of apps kill it though

But nothing is touching it as a book/magazine reader

Thats the downside of the Kindle
You have to sideload all the good free apps not available to it because of restrictions.

I think perfect viewer is what I used

You can also go the blu ray player route....the latest ones play virtually every file and have YouTube/netflix/hulu etc apps to boot....except bb browser these tab/phone browsers are limited

It's good for casual users. My daughter has one and it functions well enough for her to use Netflix/Pandora and search the web.

But if your mom has ever touched a higher end tablet then the kindle is straight status.
