With all the deals going on for the Super Bowl... that's still pretty expensive for a 55in...

Are you dead set on getting a set with 3D or something? The 240hz really isn't necessary either.

Best Buy is selling that Aquos Sharp 70in for like 1700 and they have 60in for 899 and another with the smart apps for 1100.

I have one of the 70in sets (the one with the smart apps) and it has a damn good picture and I haven't had any noticeable lag playing games on it and I'm big on shooters and fighting games. I know Sony and Samsung may be your go to brands, but...

 @ that price for a 55in

Wherever whores go.....
Man dont listen to these people.

Thats actually a pretty good price for all the features your getting.
Unlike the other tvs posted it has a dual core processor for the smart features. And quality wise your got going to do much better than a Samsung LED

The Sony HX850 is my favorite tv put there :ahh:. It matches the brightness of LED and gives the contrast of top of the line plasmas.

He could get a media stream player and hook it up to one of the cheaper TVs and have more features than those smart TVs though.

Not really. The Samsungs have just as much content as any smart device. The rest you can stream since the 7100 model has a full web browser also. Plus those cheaper tvs are not touching the quality of the samsung or sony OP posted

If it doesn't have access to PLEX app then he is better off hooking up a Roku to it.

PLEX > Everything on that list besides Netflix.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say.

My Panny has DNLA, my Sharp does too, and I know on my Panny I can stream straight to it off of my HTPC for TV Shows. It doesn't work on the TV for movies/mkv files.

To alleviate the headaches, something like a Roku will have you covered for everything. I have 2 smart TVs and they're nice to have... with a PS3, 360 and a Roku box, I never use the apps on them. I have a 3D TV as well, and I've never used that feature either.

I use League Pass on my Roku/360 a lot also... I haven't seen that app on any smart TVs

Plus... Plex is the GOAT

That's a whole lot of money for a TV...
its not a lot of money for a 7 series Samsung. they go 4-5-6-7-8-9 so this is 2 series down from their best sets. all i wanted to keep it around $1500 so i went with the Samsung. i wanted that Sony but you can't find it anywhere. that Sony HL850 is supposed to be the best LED TV for the money.
