Nah, biopic movie fatigue is real. People complain about comic book movie fatigue, but those have really only been a thing since 2000. They've been doing the same biopic formula since forever.

Formula is as follows,

1) Pick someone famous,
2)Make the movie about their entire life, from birth to death.
3) Have a bunch of drama and heartache
4) End it with an uplifting message.

My problem with this formula is, nobodies whole entire life is special. People aren't born famous and special, i don't need to spend the first hour of the movie watching a person being a regular person before the fame. This ain't spiderman, origin stories for most people aren't that interesting, no radioactive spiderbites and shyt, they just regular people until they not. and even spiderman's origin story got played out so much that disney skipped it entirely for the mcu version. Just do a movie about an interesting event in their life and make that the entire focus of the movie. We already know who they are, don't need backstory.
For example i liked Selma, because it was about one thing MLK jr did. Not a summary of his whole life.

All jokes aside OP. I will probably see it when it streams.

Jennifer is a talented and beautiful sista so I always root for her. Plus she is from the Chicago land area.

Also I like when they have biopics on music legends and the person playing the lead role can actually since. This is really rare.

She's the only celeb who could realistically do this role. They would have had to do a decade long search to audition an unknown who might have been able to do it. The people who could have done the singing wouldn't have been able to do the acting, and vice versa.

Hudson has the talent, and the OSCAR , so this was a good look for the producers. This film will likely be huge internationally, which is what they're banking on.

'Respect' at home: Aretha Franklin biopic moves to on-demand services
The film, which opened in theaters earlier this month, is now available to rent at home for $19.99.

In a surprise and sudden move, the Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect" is now available to rent at home via on video-on-demand services, just two weeks after it opened in theaters.

The movie arrived Friday on Amazon Prime Video, where it is available to stream for $19.99. It is also available on Vudu, Google Play, YouTube and other rental services.

Filmmakers were adamant about "Respect" being a big screen experience, releasing it exclusively in theaters rather than concurrently offering it for home streaming, a strategy employed by several studios as the pandemic continues to affect Hollywood's bottom line.

But after opening at No. 4 on at the box office two weeks ago, pulling in $8.8 million its debut frame, it slid to No. 5 last weekend with a $3.7 million haul. It has made $17.4 million to date against a reported budget of $55 million.

The film has performed well with audiences, earning an A grade from CinemaScore, which measures audience reaction. The film has a 69% "fresh" score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 95% audience score.

But there were concerns that older audiences weren't venturing out to see the movie, which stars Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul, a problem that his hit adult-skewing films since Hollywood began once again rolling out its heavy hitters.

In addition to being available at home, "Respect" is still in theaters.
