Anyone else go completely sober cold turkey, and surprised how easy it was?

I stopped drinking, and taking gummies about 6 weeks ago, and I have no desire to drink, or be high.

:skip:

There was a point I could drink about a half bottle of wine per day, or go through a box of wine by myself in a week. Then, I started taking gummies, and would take one as soon as I got home from work, and all day while working from home, and on the weekends. Now, I don’t miss them at all, and I have much less anxiety. I think it was causing me to feel worse, when I thought I needed it to feel better. Granted, I have much less stress now, but I don’t even think about drinking.

Half a bottle of wine ain't much. Try going cold turkey after drinking at least a 6 pack a day for 5+ years. Couple years nikka was pouring up at least half a liquor bottle almost daily. I tried, not thinking withdrawals would affect me much, and it didn't take long for me to realize how wrong I was

I swear I read about drinking on multiple platforms damn near every day, that lockdown did a number on human civilization. There should be a study on alcoholism post covid in the future.

It takes a while before you realize having an addiction is in fact hard work. Returning to your spot every 5-7 days. "Making time" to partake all through your waking day. Dealing with the headaches, the lethargic feelings, the weird changes in appetite, the constant draining tiredness, the lack of energy. Those tough work days...or even months...where you feel like you can drop dead every time you gotta leave your house. Up procrastinating every morning and every night with a bottle of whiskey, a 8th of weed, and a Youtube lineup when you should've just been resting, sleeping, and rejuvenating.

When you first started, two puff of weed and a can of beer was all it took to knock you off your ass until you drifted to sleep, and it actually felt "good." Years later you sit on the edge of your bed smoking for hours and guzzling pounds of drink on end, even disrupting your own sleep and other healthy activities, just to finally feel a lil dizzy.

It takes just as much work to reverse those habits, but once you do, the relief of having this thing that disrupts you from having full physical energy, a complete feeling of happiness, clear mind that doesn't feel easily distracted or "cloudy" all the time, a clear manageable appetite, consistent and full sleep, and everything else we need to feel truly relieved and happy every day is great.

Congratulations OP. Keep up your progress and your self care
