Anyone else think that one of the biggest problems in the rap game now is.....

Some of these guys got a lot of tracks sitting in the vault....i dont see it as a problem releasing some of these tracks free to fans until you complete your next project...it keeps u buzzing and gives you time to perfect your next album

I agree. There is no way you can put out quality music if you putting out 3 mixtapes a year, an album, touring, shooting videos, etc. At some point you're just mailing it in. Or you're just going with whatever formula you have and repeating it ad nauseam.

That's what I've always liked about Asap, Earl and them, they're not constantly dropping tracks, remixes, mixtapes, etc.

you know what, if a rapper want to throw out a teaser here and there. Go ahead. he wants to leak a song that will probably be an album cut from his album sure.

but to just release full mixtapes, and throway songs constantly is actually DEVALUING yourself as an artist.

there is a point in this game where you will actually oversaturate the market and play yourself out.

Rappers/artists used to be able to tour for a full year or more based off of one album.

But here is the funniest part. Everyone saying they ain't making money from song sales or albums sales and shyt. then why would these rappers keep dropping random songs. I mean Future JUST came off 1 1/2 albums released in what 7-8 months?

and now he's throwing out anohter mixtape? naw. You gotta let your music simmer though. You are making your OWN music forgettable by constantly putting out new shyt. And when that new shyt isn't even quality then you gonna lose more fans in that process.

but if you make forgettable music to begin with, the best way to stay relevant is flood the streets. These guys aren't doing this out of stupidity. They're doing it because it has worked countless times with follower-type hip hop fans.

One would say "the pioneers of trash rap". All makes sense now :ohhh:

You said it. Not me.

When you break down a lot of these discographies now you'll realize that you only like about 1/3rd of the music they dropped but you'll meet someone who likes a completely different 1/3rd of their discography.

very true. For me, it's about 1/30th. But I absolutely agree. That's why it becomes harder to agree on what is a great work from an artist the shyttier the artist is. When you release music with a purpose, it's clearer where you excel/fail. But with trash rap, there is no purpose. In fact, fans are often digging for a purpose and will find one where none exists. And that's why we don't agree on their best/worst work.

Charles Hamilton is the worst for this. Dude has like a million mixtapes, with an average of one good song per tape. I would listen to him way more often if I knew I wouldn't have to sieve through so much crap to get to the good stuff.
