Anyone ever buy a phone to use in another country?

Just asking because I want to get phone for my GF to use in Jamaica next month. She'll be using DIGICEL. Just wanted to know the pros and cons or which phones to get or use while abroad. She has a verizon phone but wants a beater she can use yearly. TIA

just get an unlocked phone .....anything works i have sprint so have blackberry bold that comes unlocked just put phone in gsm mode and put in sim
