Anyone ever flew with an expired Driver's License?

Flew out of Atlanta to San Francisco. Didn't have an issue either time, plus had a layover in Denver. All u really need is your boarding pass. When I checked in they told me I'd need extra ID but when I went through security they just scanned my license and didn't make me show any other ID or social security card or nothing.
I actually just read a week ago that you do not need an id to fly domestically.Ive flown with no id many a times cuz I left my wallet in my checked bag
But yeah tsa doesnt care about expired ids

Yeah they made me answer a red phone that had some operator ask for my social and then asked me some multiple choice questions about my past.
