Anyone had a “paper route” or know someone who had one, or was this just a tv and movie thing?

I had both a newspaper route and a grocery store flyers jobs that I did at the same time.
In the winter I would also go door to door asking them if they would like me to shovel for $15
In the summer I would go door to door asking if they would like me to wash their car for $15
I also had a created a visual basic with MS Access database customer video store application. So I created a customer order taking application with visual basic and an ms access backend and I would go to video stores trying to sell, it, it had no billing capability though, only order history and alerts when a movie was overdue type stuff.

I also provided tutoring services in programming and computer science, I called myself an Object Oriented Instructor. LOL
I used to post printed copies of tutoring services on college campuses

Never did. I never seen a kid do it either. When I was young , there’d be a guy in a station wagon, driving around, throwing papers on peoples lawns.

My first job when I got out of prison. Had to show up at a warehouse at like 1 AM. They made us bag up our own newspapers and then you would head out and run the route

It was old heads who had been there for like 10 years who could run their route in an hour. Everybody else was out till 6 AM

It wasn’t a weekly paper route but I did help my grandfather send papers and newsletters to the co-ops in Harlem close to Grant Projects. Did that for a whole summer and made bread.

Lucky. I used to hate folding those big ass Sunday papers.

When my mom delivered the press, me and my sister sat in the back seat folding the papers, and putting them in the plastic bags. They did a promotion with Dentyne gum once, and we got to keep all the extra bags with the little packs of gum. You’d think we won the lottery.

I had one back in the day:russell: I used to deliver the "Progress Bulletin" when I was in Jr. High :bryan:. One thing you learned delivering the paper was that the Sunday advertising and comics would be dropped off to the paperboys on Thursdays. I got to read the comics and know what was going to be on sale before everyone else (we were too broke to buy anything though :russ:). I remember folding my papers up and watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Muppet Babies.:flabbynsick:

My quads were were rock hard when I was riding around my neighborhood:dame:
:shaq: I’m sure your quads aren’t the only thing that’s rock hard pause back then and now

Was this just a movie and tv thing? My mom delivered the press before she met my stepdad, and my grandma worked at the press at night, and met her second husband. Those were part time jobs.

But I’ve never known anyone who rode a bike, delivered papers like this in the mornings. Were they really paying kids to deliver papers past 1995?

I had one, probably around that time period or maybe a little later (97 ish).
