Just trying to start a thread to see what everyone trains in. Anybody have any amateur fights or take part in grappling tournaments? Talk about techniques they use and stuff like that.

Ive been training muay thai kickboxing for a year with some judo in there(not as much as i should). Its under a guy who has his black belt from duke roufus.

I've taken boxing training and had a gym membership for a while but never got into the ring vs. anyone.

It was moreso for the technique and exercise.

:yeshrug:

I'd love to start sparring tho. I gotta get my cardio up first
How many miles do you walk, run, or bicycle a day??

Cardio is so underrated. I just really started focusing on that in the last 3 months. We do tabatta type shyt in our program with heavy bags, jumprope, agility ladder. During fight camps people puke shyt, is hard as hell at first. I hate running, but love biking and doing the row machine.

Been sparring for about 4 months now. Nothing beats it. It takes awhile to fully get the feeling but as soon as you get the feeling, timing, and being able to slip and cut angles you feel so good. I have to work on my flexibilty though. I csn throw headkicks just not how i want too exaclty

The rza does as well
The RZA's lifelong affinity for martial arts culture is well known and well documented. ... A decade and a half later, RZA began his martial arts practice in earnest when he met Shi Yan Ming, a 34th generation Shaolin monk who defected to the United States in 1992 and opened a Shaolin Temple in Manhattan.

But personally,Krav for 7 yrs Muay for 2/3 I really want find a good silat instructor

Man what I would do to run 10 miles most I’ve done recently is like 3. I’m going to try and do 4 this weekend. I’m going to join a gym next summer. But I wanted to get down to 230 before.

Did 15 rounds the other day. Cardio is actually feeling decent been througb 2 fight camps the last 3 months so that is probably why. Cant wait for my first fight. Coach says it wont be to long away. Its a great feeling once you actually start gaining good knowledge and tactics and using it in sparring.

NYC black coffee tough guys aka the Stoozy Boys
Boxed for 10 years, I won a bunch of smokers held in the Bronx and some "clubs" in Spanish Harlem (25-0-0), it felt more like a hobby for me, so I took up wrestling in JH, and HS in Hawaii (HPA).

I do very little cardio, insofar that I have a naturally great gas tank, so I rarely needed to run much. All the cardio I gained came from training other areas; rolling for an hour, sparring/bag training for hours, etc. I got into catch wrestling aka American JJ, and easily fell into BJJ without any problems. Basically all that sparring/training, helped my stamina, without having to run miles. I tested this by rolling with guys who ran religiously, they would usually gas out first, so no problems there.

Never really liked Judo, Aikido, or Wing Chun, a lot of it felt like bullshyt to me even back in the 90's. As much as I love Bruce Lee, my use of every technique in different systems of combat, excluded those three. Some of Judo was nice, but I'm a big guy with proper training, if you can throw me, I deserve to lose. Always loved sumo, Chinoyofuji (the wolf) was a fav of mine, so I trained Sumo techniques for a summer.
