Anyone know what NY/Detroit club he's talking about? (a 'high value' club for black folks)

He briefly talked about a failed experiment of a nightclub for black people in either Detroit or NY in the 90s where the men had to make an X amount of money and the women had to be attractive.

Sounds.....like a good idea actually.

Above the fray.
I remember the story. It was NYC, and it wasn't a physical venue, it was an organization that would have events in different places.

It was marketed to be "exclusively for high earning professional men" and for women looking to pair up with them.

Never added up because all roads lead to New York . Meaning that there are formal and informal alumni "clubs" for every major college , chapter for every professional organization, and every BGLO there. They all had social events.
In fact, I went to school with one of the Brothers who ran the NYC social scene for that set.

In New York, of all places, this proposed "club" seemed redundant.

I saw it as marketed towards wannabes who stacked a few dollars and wanted to appear more successful than they were by being around good looking women from lower socio economic background.

Metro area with two pro basketball teams, two football teams, two baseball teams? Those dime chicks those guys were after were not thinking about going to events with middle management types with starter Benzes.

So basically the usual frat guys turned party promoters?

Yeah NYC is not the place to do that as there are too many “high value” circles that will get your run of the mill “buppie” overlooked by women who are on the come up.

I was gonna say that there were a number of clubs that were frequented by upper class Harlemites like the Cotton Club and Small’s Paradise but they were long gone by the 90’s.

In Michigan, they had the the Purple Palace, the Flamingo, the Paradise Club, Idlewild Club, Rosanna Tavern, and Pearl's Bar which were frequented by the wealthy black vacationers of Idlewild, but those are also long gone.

Most of the wealthy black dimes in NYC that I know don’t even go for black professional men. They all go after wealthy white Wall Street financiers. I have a cousin like this from Katonah and I found out that they have their own little society of social climbing black women that do this. They don’t even socially interact with other black people unless they are “chic” socialite types.

@HarlemHottie Have you seen black women like this in NYC? Graduated from Ivies or Seven Sisters, only dates white financiers, hobnobs among the art or fashion socialite crowd, rarely interacts with black professionals.

So the men gotta have career accomplishments and the women just looks? Seems like they coulda just saved the time and let people bag at the regular club. Its def redundant. The women need to bring something to the table as well or it's not a high value club just elite simp society.

All these smart men and they haven't learned to protect their money by interacting with women who also have assets not just ass. Real value not financial liabilities.

The pitch was that it was going to attract young beautiful women, who were out to have fun.,The same chicks that most male club goers were after.
The club card or pass was supposed to grant the guy exclusive access to these events.

Now that I think about it, reminds me of the lyric that Ceelo said in Cell Therapy
"But every now and then, I wonder if the gate was to keep crime out brings dimes in, or keep our ass in keep true ballers from coming in"

If this was at an obscure city somewhere, it might make sense (on paper). Never in metro NYC or any metro area.

[In cities where servicemen are stationed, here and abroad, this type of setup exists. Military exclusive bars and events, and the local young ladies are allowed in.]

But this club idea mentioned in OP video was a hustle, meant to appeal to dudes who desired validation. I tell the younger dudes here all the time to not fall for old hustles. Always somebody out there ready to prey on your insecurities.

In fact, if the "club""did get up and running, within a year, some of those chicks would have read those guys and manipulated them, too. Tricking, paternity suits, or lined up to get robbed.

Integration lead to some those venues eventually closing down. Not necessarily because of the patrons.
The touring acts used to be a major draw from those places. They were limited from performing at larger venues, and earning what their talents would have demanded previously. Once some of those restrictions were lifted, they did the practical thing and maximized their earning potential.
Smaller venues and clubs weren't a priority for them, or a big payday anymore, so they stopped performing there.
Eventually patrons booked vacations in the mainstream resorts and spots that were now open to them.

:beli:Yep.

(As a youth, I spent much of my time in this milieu- the Manhattan art/ fashion scene- and the women you describe were usu the only other bp around. In college, I was the 'only black friend' for a few, again, due to my interests. As an adult, I come across them in 'finance wives' cliques.)
