Anyone Play an Instrument?

Just curious.

If so, which instruments do you know how to play and how well do you know how to play each one?

How long have you been playing and when did you start?

I'm only asking because I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano, guitar, and violin specifically but I didn't grow up with the access to do these things or guidance towards those things. My desire to learn to play an instrument came later in life and by then, I felt it was too late outside of learning the basics. No hopes of being a Prince at this time

Every now and then I go through musical phases where I just get sucked in to an artist or a style of music and am currently going through a progressive rock style phase. Man there is so much talent out there...

@ Prince just showing out from 3:25 onwards. Folks always compare prince to MJ but he is more comparable to Hendrix.

Started in middle school learning the saxophone drop that and learned to play the keys in church. Been playing ever since. Also learning the bass and guitar. Rhythm Guitar is harder for me than lead. I know all the notes to aim for and what scales to use and how to apply them when the changes come but rhythm itself isn't hard it the guitar chord shapes and trying to groove while holding them. But I'm getting better with it. I'm a beast on the keys and I actually have an ear for arrangements a talent that is borderline lost in a lot of younger musicians .

I've thought for the longest time that if there is any downside with the decline of religion in the Black Community, is that it was at least a introduction in to playing music and developing musical talent.

Most of the greats that people think of when it comes to black artists, not just performers but people who really know their music, they all played in church which provided a place for them to develop their talent.

Yeah i argee here 100%. I'm glad I did because I learned how to play what I feel and I can play along with a lot of records. Some people learn to just be cookie cutter muscians or sheet musicians but I think a smaller amount learn to truly be free and expressive with their instrument. Like my one buddy he only can play by sheet. It's good to be able to do both. Only thing that trips me up on piano is non-root inversions of chords in relation to the key signature.

Guitar for 10+ years.

Get a good jazz guitar teacher for a bit and then you can self teach after awhile.

Always use a metronome
