Trap isn't just a bottomed out 808 drum and fast snares

...its a genre of rap about street life and more specifically drug dealing from the southern perspective.

The fact that this type of production popularized by Jeezy/Gucci is now called "trap" makes it sound like dudes are forgetting what a "trap" actually is.

Rappers been rapping about the streets long before trap...

Without the sound, trap is no different from gangsta rap...The sound DEFINES the genre...

Drill is an offshoot of trap, but the Drill sound is slightly different from trap...Trap is more "uplifting" and a little faster than Drill...

I like Young Chop's version of Drill because it seems slower, darker and heavier...It makes sense to kill people on a Young Chop beat...

It is almost like slow death metal...

The fukk you nikkaz saying. Trap music was for us trapping ass nikkaz. In the trap pocket full of cash, hard in the bushes. Gangsta rap was primarily a west coast thing. They call themselves gangsta. Southern dudes did not. We were trappers. nikkaz in an apt building getting money. A trap. All this drill and other funny names you guys give the music is fukking hilarious. I guess that's the young people shyt. YI u guys really don't know shyt. Country I guess. Remember when tip said it's the trap. That's how us atl nikkaz lived. In the trap. You wake up and be like I'm headed to the trap to get this money.

(1):mjlol: You are so silly...That beat doesn't even make me run through the trap serving fiends...

(2) Gucci's GREATEST song is "Lemonade" and that wasn't necessarily a trap beat...

(3) This song is better than any song Gucci has EVER made and will EVER make...

I'm not even from the south, nor am I a drug dealer but I thought this was obvious. Jeezy and T.I. have been referencing the Trap way before it became a musical "Genre."

i wonder what the next trendy sound will be. at some point it was jazzy beats. then g-funk, then the bounce type beats, then the sped up soul and the crunk, the EDM euro type beats, the auto-tune, and now the trap beats. most of these trends have given us dopeness and wackness at the same time. what's funny is that at everyone of these stages, people swore it would never get played out. what's the next sound? is it gonna be the slowed down highly reverbed/hazy synth beat with layered low pitched drums mixed with electronic drums? or will it be something else?
