Your post reminds me of riding Amtrak though the boonies in rural VA and rural NC and there was quite a few mostly Black towns in that pocket between Richmond, VA and Rocky Mount, NC. I googled the town's my phone was pinging from. I'm pretty sure most of The Coli never heard of the towns I was looking up, I don't even remember the names of the towns

It is what it is but you can find affordable places in each city. There's apartments and even small homes in all these major cities that you can find on the cheap, relative to what that city's cost of living is. Sometimes you just gotta dig. And what I mean by "relative", is obviously San Francisco is more expensive to live in than Baton Rouge, so whatever is considered expensive in your town, you can find something affordable if you really hunt...
A quick tour on Apartments app just showed Mr you can find plenty of spots in Sheboygan for under $1100. You and yours ain't hunting hard enough

This is what I was about to say though, it's the same story every era. The going rates 20 years ago, were considered expensive compared to the going rates 20 years before that. The issue is that for the average person, wages and salaries haven't kept up with inflation. If salaries for normal people matched the inflation, would be few complaints...
Which proves my point, there's affordable spots in all these major cities. Mf's just need to really hunt em out. They not gone jump out at you, they hidden amongst more expensive places and newer builds.
