It’s reloaded on YouTube. Haven’t watched this in about 10 years or so.

Damn, what a movie. Without going into the weeds with an analysis, watch it again if you haven’t.

It’s a great movie but I can’t even explain why. It’s just a feeling I get. Hard to describe.

You can take away so many different interpretations.

The connection to Heart of Darkness is the main one though.

I watch it once a year. Been one of my favorite movies since my mom made me watch it with her when I was 5 years old. She got me the redux VHS for Christmas when it came out. It’s just perfection from front to back.
Did you enjoy Redux more than the theatrical cut ? I always thought the scene with the Bunnies and the Plantation slowed the movie down. Not taking anything away, they were good scenes. It just didn’t fit in my option

The whole scene at the bridge ? Roach waking up and blasting a Vietcong with the grenade launcher ? Total and utter chaos.

Roach and Col Kurtz knew what the war was about. Salute to Roach

I think the og and final cuts are the smoothest way to tell the story, but I don’t mind the rambling that happens in redux, because I want to experience the story for as long as I can.

I loved the scene with Roach.

My personal favorite ... A film largely about alienation as I see it

My favorite part and encapsulates the ethos of the film

The Sisyphean cycle of building the bridge and it getting blown up just so the officers can save face

Lance tripping out on drugs, taking it in like a gruesome Fourth of July :wow:

1st half of the movie is one of the greatest pieces in cinema history. After the bridge scene it kinda starts going downhill but still an excellent film.

There is a 5 hour version somewhere, but in a bad quality. Lol.

The Carnival music when they get off the boat

‘’Soldier, do you know who the Commander is ? ‘’

‘’Yea”

That scene alone with Roach, just dead silence. Even Willard is speechless

There is a lot going on in these scene. Im sure someone smarter cant break it down better. A few things that struck me;

When Willard first enters and they question him about is earlier missions, the General gives him a look of disgust and sadness. He knows already that Willard is like Kurtz in many ways and history is doomed to repeat itself. The general wanted to get rid of Willard too, he saw Kurtz in him.

We are introduced to Colonel Kurtz (snail on the edge of a straight razor.

The close ups of the food (which is offered immediately.). They want him out of there as soon as possible. But, why are there close ups of the shrimp ?

The guy in in the tie (CIA probably) has 3 words ‘’with extreme prejudice’’.

We hear helicopters constantly, and it only stops once the leave the village Kilgore destroyed.

Finally, everyone in the room knew Willard would be either dead or MIA. I feel they already knew where the compound was. They just needed confirmation to destroy it.
