Apparently, Vince genuinely believed New Day would get over big time during their initial face run..

Talk Is Jericho

From Talk With Jericho feat NEW DAY!

Vince legit thought they'd be HUGE as faces with that gospel gimmick....

And was actually distraught when he realized it wasn't working and he had to turn them heel. There wasn't some grand plan in the beginning to purposely turn off the audience and transition New Day into heels.

Vince is so out of touch, he was so sure this was going to work.

Listen to the podcast to hear Xavier describe the pain in Vince's voice when he had to concede defeat :russ: Even in defeat, he actually hoped the big face run would happen.

And thank goodness he did because Heel Day is :salute:

Vince wanted them to be preachers. :mjpls:

Big E used to be a preacher.

Vince called Xavier Woods "Zeke" for a while. :mjlol:

Vince had the idea of making Ron Simmons wear that ridiculous helmet when he debuted as Faarooq.

New Day was low key shytting on the smark cities. :lolbron:

Fresh Coat of Paint was one of the proposed team names.

Along with KBX, House of Light, and House of Positive Energy.

They said that their original theme sounded like old gospel music from the 1940s.

Kofi's favorite wrestler growing up was Shawn Michaels.

Jericho mentions the Consequences Creed gimmick. Dutch Mantel gave him the name in TNA.

Big E was a big Goldberg fan growing up. He originally wanted to be a football player but injuries made him change his path and someone close to JR offered him an opportunity in wrestling.

Kofi talked about his old debut vignettes for ECW and how he hated them and thought they were terrible. Vince even said his vignettes were "barely passable".

The Jamaican gimmick came from him randomly doing a Jamaican accent for promo class because he had been listening to a lot of Damian Marley at the time.

Vince made Kofi do the Jamaican accent for all of the media spots and interviews.

Kofi's mom accidentally broke kayfabe when an interviewer was able to contact her about his accent that he suspected was fake.

This was the BBC article: BBC NEWS | World | Africa | Wrestling's Jamaican star - from Ghana

Jericho gave Kofi props for his MSG moment with Orton when he did the Boom Drop through a table.

Kofi mentions how his music was cued late for the run in.

Big E's favorite moment was his Raw match with CM Punk. It was after his bodyguard role with Ziggler.

AJ Lee said that CM Punk asked to work with Big E which explains why the match was set up.

He credits Punk for saving him from getting lost in the "midcard abyss" (that's my name for it).

Xavier Woods' favorite match was with Petey Williams for the X-Division Title.

Xavier's favorite wrestler growing up was Yuji Nagata in WCW.

That gimmick was pretty cringeworthy from those first vignettes, Steve Austin was complaining almost every other podcast that he didn't get what they were doing with it.

it wasn't until they started being disingenuous and trolling openly that it started to click. If they're still in tact by then the Wrestlemania season crowd will likely turn them pseudo face

Vince is a weird dude man

After being dropped off Forbes’ list of billionaires back in May of last year, Vince McMahon is now once again worth over a billion dollars. Forbes lists McMahon at a net worth of $1.21 billion as of today, reflecting WWE stock’s return to form after having suffered a massive drop-off after the company’s new deal with NBC/Universal didn’t net as much as hoped.
