iPhone 6s Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues - Apple Support
I had this problem with my iPhone 6. When it got down to under 50% battery life and especially close to 30% it would randomly shut down and take several minutes before you could turn it back on. It would show the dead battery icon on the screen after shutting down.
I took it to the Apple store and since I was within a year at the time the rep ended up swapping it out even though she said she couldn't find a problem and on the replacement phone that never happened.
Seems like they're only acknowledging it with the 6s but it was an issue on the 6 too.
