Particularly in the last 7-10 years...the consensus seems to be that American SUVs and trucks are the real deal but everything else is :trash:. With the improvements in automobile tech across the board as of late are American whips still that far behind or is this a tale held on to from the 90s? Are some American brands better or worse than others? At 24 I've only been in Japanese cars my whole life so I have no experience with American cars.

the last 7-10 year distinction is key here, but i can't speak on the quality of newer american cars.

the Chevy/Buick family tree of cars are mad reliable in my experience

the 3100/3800 v6 is the definition of till the wheels fall off :takedat:

Production of the 3800 V6 engine officially ended on Friday, August 22, 2008 when plant 36 was closed. There was a closing ceremony and speakers who extolled the virtues of the engine. Originally GM had set this date for January 1, 1999; however, due to the vast number of complaints from both investors and customers because of the popularity and reliability of the engine, the date was extended.

What era/style of car are you looking at? because from 80-'05 there are a ton of workhorse cars that'll do ya right

Right now I'm not looking but my Infiniti has 230k on it. So when it starts going on me I want an idea of if I can cast a wider net or keep it Japanese. I don't think I want a car that old no matter where it's from though.

You know I was talking with my father and cars the other day and I was telling him we use all sorts of American cars at my job and motherfukkers stay abusing them. Like driving them all crazy and plenty of stop and go. 8 hours a day for years. Besides oil changes and normal expected maintenance they all run fine. Bumpy as shyt but ok. We use many diffrent car brands at my job but mainly American.
Two people drive Mercedes Benz at my job for work. I swear on everything those are the only cars that stay in the shop. One is in the shop now. The driver assigned to that vehicle is a caveman. A fukking caveman. So I expect his shyt to be fukked up. The other driver of the other Benz is a normal driver but that car was in the shop recently.

i dig that, and :salute:for whipping the car till over 200k

im sure you know your taste, but i'd suggest taking a second look at the very early 00's cars if you don't wanna reach back to the 90's

but if your price point is around 10k ish and you're feeling founky take a look at a '96 impala ss sleight 5.7 v8 w/260harry potters

Just curious what year Infiniti do you have?
I have a '10 G with like 90K on it, my previous car was a civic I put 230k on and the one before that an Accord I put 175k on. Basically I'm wondering if Infinitis are on that Honda tip of easily hitting 150k before any problems start up.

It's an 04 G...it was my dad's first I've had it for about a year and I've put 9-10k on it.

GM and Ford make some nice sedans now but I'd probably never go that route, it just ain't for me. Some of them are lightweight on options, but others are respectable. I've only ever owned Japanese

my next ehicle will likely be a honda or maybe Nissan

Dodge still has that classic shyt American quality. :ahh:

Ford has the demonic dual clutch that never worked out. :scusthov:

GM wants to kill you. :krs:

But reliability? They seem to be better. And that's not saying much now in the grand scheme of things. Maybe we will have a better record to look at in a few more years. It will be a good gauge of time since the bail outs of GM and Chrysler Group.

Nevertheless, when aliens come to Earth they're buying Japanese.

No, they have gotten better design wise. just wished they had more reliability like other cars... there's no reason they cannot build a car built to last. :francis: but that's how they get you, forcing you to buy parts so they can keep eating...
