Swingmans/Replicas are fan jerseys people are supposed to wear to games and fit casually so you can wear them with regular clothes better.

Authentics are made with the same care as the game jerseys and have better material because they are designed for performance. They usually run bigger and are a little more awkward to wear casually because they're made to be tucked in with basketball shorts.

Usually you can tell by the way they're cut. And swingmans will usually have an adidas/champion/nike/reebok logo on them (depending on era)

edit: Here's an example

Swingman

Wider cut around the arms for a shirt feeling, logos on the bottom will say swingman on them, tag on the back. More of a faded yellow for washing. Barely if any holes in the jersey for breathability.

Authentic

No adidas logo, slimmer cut, holes in the jersey to breathe, purer yellow, bigger lettering and numbers that were added by a tailor

Honestly easiest distinction is price.

Swingmans are 110.00 the authentic joints are 250.00 the vintage Mitchell and Ness jerseys are 250-300.

Swingman is close to being authentic without it being one...the cut is different and logo is different.
